Being the movie enthusiast that I am, I know I've watched a lot of films in my life, but lately I've been wanting to quantify that in real terms. So being the geek that I am I decided to run the numbers. As of this moment, September 27, 2010, my Netflix account shows a total of 2008 movies and tv shows that I've personally reviewed on the site. By my calculation, that averages out to about 63 movies per year. However, that assumes that I started watching movies from the day that I was born, which is obviously not the case.
Assuming that I didn't really start watching movies and remembering them until I was 6, that results in an average of 77 movies per year, or put another way, roughly 6 movies a month for the last 26 years of my life. But even that is a conservative estimate. I am certain that I've watched at least 100 more movies and tv shows that I just haven't reviewed yet on Netflix. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm personally astounded by my number.
